Test drive of Volkswagen ID.6 X, equipped with 7-seat space, the interior materials have been improved, if you want to buy it, hurry up
In fact, it was because I paid attention to the current situation in Shanghai that I remembered that I had previously test-driven the ID.6 X of SAIC Volkswagen, but I had not yet recorded the test drive (I did shoot the video). After all, judging from the current situation, if Shanghai cannot restore the order of life and production as soon as possible, it will have a serious impact on the production and sales of automobiles.
The interior and exterior design is still "Volkswagen"
Back to the topic, let me record my test drive experience of the SAIC Volkswagen ID.6 X. This car was rented for 99 yuan through the Volkswagen ID. series customer test drive experience activity. The test drive lasted for three days, almost all of which were run in the urban area of Chengdu. However, I ran almost 400km in total, which is quite a lot.
In terms of design, the Volkswagen ID.6 X, as a product born under the Volkswagen MEB platform, is still very similar to the previous ID.4 or ID.3 in terms of overall style. However, since it is the largest model under the platform, there are subtle differences in shape.
The front face has a double-layer design of the headlights and a two-stage grille shape, which makes the front look more layered and uniquely recognizable. The front grille adopts two design styles: dot matrix and diamond mesh, and is equipped with an active closed air intake grille function. For electric products, this configuration significantly improves high-speed endurance.
The side view of the car still looks very "typical" SUV style. The black anti-scratch hanging surround and the undulating waistline design make the styling characteristics of ID.6 X very obvious. However, the hidden B and C pillars and the silver luggage rack design make it look a bit like a crossover station wagon.
The design of the door handle is also one of the product features of the Volkswagen ID. series. What looks like a mechanical door handle is actually an electronic door lock design on the same plane as the side of the car body.
The design of the rear is much more plain than the front. The through-type taillights are matched with the luminous "VW" logo, which is highly recognizable at night. More horizontal lines and the license plate hanging design at the bottom make the rear look more stable, which makes it look like an MPV.
There is a "secret" hidden inside the taillight cavity. The "X" that lights up when the brakes are pressed and the overlapping width indicator light design make it recognizable at a glance at night.
If I compare the interior design of the car with Volkswagen's previous fuel-powered models, I would say that the changes are huge. But if we use electric vehicles as a reference, this design is still in the traditional interior design of fuel-powered cars, and it doesn't have the kind of "eye-catching" feeling. Of course, this kind of instrument is an instrument, and the central control is a central control design. There is also an advantage, that is, you won't be "blind" when you sit in the car, and you can naturally get started with the basic functions of the car.
If there is anything that needs to be adapted, it is that the electronic shift mechanism is placed on the right side of the small LCD instrument, but you will get used to it quickly after getting used to it. The most representative thing is that when I drive my own car after returning the car, I will turn on the wipers after starting the car...
The 12-inch LCD central control screen has a very delicate display effect, although it cannot be compared with the current independent brands or mainstream new energy models in terms of intelligent performance. However, compared with the car system installed in Volkswagen's previous generation of fuel-powered models, this new car system has added easy-to-use online navigation, music and other functions, as well as a very easy-to-use gesture sensing function, which can be said to have greatly improved the experience.
The number of physical buttons in the car has been greatly reduced, and the function buttons that can be seen are basically touch-operated with moderate sensitivity, but they are definitely not as "smooth" as physical buttons when it comes to quick operation.
Compared with the touch button design of the central control area, a vibration motor is added to the touch buttons on the multi-function steering wheel, which simulates the pressing feeling of physical buttons when touched. It is recommended to add vibration modules to the touch buttons of the entire vehicle.
Although there are no obvious problems with the interior design and functional layout, the window button design has not been improved. If the ID.4 is limited by the body size, then the ID.6 X is indeed not the case. Every time you want to control the rear windows, you must light up the "REAR" in front to control the rear windows through the two window buttons at the rear. However, the "REAR" button uses touch operation and cannot be switched quickly, which causes some inconvenience when driving.
After driving for three days, what impressed me most about the car was the comfort of the seats. The ergonomic design of the seats and the padding of the seat cushions fit my waist, back and legs very well, which to some extent can bring a more comfortable long-distance experience.
The seven seats are really just for emergencies
Compared with ID.4, the emergence of ID.6 X is not just a large five-seater SUV. The main reason for the emergence of ID.6 X is that it provides 7-seat and 6-seat layouts.
First of all, if you consider the ID.6 X as a large five-seater SUV, the riding experience in the second row is outstanding enough. The adjustable backrest can be placed at the maximum angle, and combined with the flat floor, cushion padding and excellent headroom design, it can provide a very comfortable riding experience for three people.
This 7-seater model adopts a 2+3+2 layout. After opening the two rear seats, the legroom is a bit "touching". Compared with the space design of mainstream traditional 7-seater SUVs, the third row of ID.6 X is not superior. Taking the riding space on the left side as a reference, when a 180cm tall tester ensures a normal driving position and a basic space of one fist for the knees of the second row seats, the riding space in the third row seems very cramped.
Although the third-row seating space is a bit cramped, the almost flat design that allows the second and third rows to be folded down greatly enhances the car's appeal. It is indeed very good that the storage space can be expanded to this extent.
Driving experience makes a big difference
As a new energy product, the Volkswagen ID.6 X may seem too conservative in its interior and exterior design, and the third row of space is a bit cramped. The experience of some functions still needs to be optimized, but once the ID.6 X is driven, it can completely distance itself from the new new energy products.
This car is the Pro long-range version, not the best-performing four-wheel drive version, but that's just what I want. The 150kW rear-wheel drive motor comes from the Volkswagen MEB platform, with a peak torque of 310N·m. The motor's unique torque response speed can easily drive this mid-size SUV.
The difference is that the power tuning of ID.6 X is not "aggressive". Unlike most electric cars that release power as soon as the accelerator is touched, the power release of ID.6 X is very linear after the accelerator pedal is pressed. The starting feeling is infinitely close to that of internal combustion engine models. The accelerator pedal gave me a very good impression when I first got on the car. Even if you enter the sports mode, you don't need to be too nervous on the accelerator pedal of ID.6 X. Only when you step on the accelerator pedal deeply can you feel the faster speed of power response in the sports mode, but as long as you press the accelerator pedal slowly, its power will still be released very linearly, which is very easy to control.
In addition to the basic power calibration that meets the daily driving experience, the chassis calibration is also excellent enough. The four-wheel independent suspension chassis structure, combined with a more balanced body weight, allows Volkswagen's chassis engineers to give full play to their technical skills. For daily road driving, the rebound is sharp and the shock absorption is efficient, which ensures the road feel while also ensuring the comfort of the passengers in the car. During the three days of the test drive, I rarely felt the existence of the chassis, unless I deliberately drove over some manhole covers or potholes, I would feel its chassis feedback in detail. As a new energy product, Volkswagen ID.6 X can be a "teacher" for many new power products.
In terms of cruise assist function, ID.6 X still has the traditional L2 cruise assist function, which can provide a certain driving assistance experience on highways or expressways and reduce fatigue. However, compared with more new energy products, it is still lacking in lane assist, car following assist and automatic route planning. However, for daily driving, this configuration is not in a hurry to keep up with the pace, and currently China does not support overly intelligent driving assistance systems.
Knight Talks Cars
In Volkswagen's ID. series, except for the ID.3 that I want to drive the most but haven't driven it properly, I have already had a relatively in-depth test drive experience with the ID.4 and ID.6. The calibration of power and chassis is undoubtedly a major advantage of the ID. series. You can seamlessly transition from traditional fuel vehicles to this ID. series product. Of course, in terms of the progress of intelligence, the ID.6 X is still at a medium level. Although it is not difficult to use, it is not a mainstream intelligent experience. Finally, if you plan to buy this ID.6 X in the near future, you can put it on the agenda as soon as possible. Whether it is a factor of production capacity or price, it may affect your final car purchase plan.
